As most of the world trade moves via sea mode there is still a considerable volume which gets shipped via Air. Perishable cargo , pharma , valuables, chemicals are some of the cargo types which get shipped by air.In terms of Freight ton kilometer ( FTK) air freight transport have shown phenomenal growth.

Although Air freight rates are much more compared to sea freight charges there is still good demand for the Air freight. This is primarily driven by the lean supply chains , just in time approach to supplies.E commerce is another major growth driver for International air freight.

Air shipments are shipped via two modes i.e. International air freight and Express air freight. Both are different.

International air freight are shipments which uses more than one connections till final delivery airport. Express air freight on the other hand are shipments less than 1 CBM/100kg and are executed by one service provider from door to door.

International Air freight rates vary as per the weight slab. International Air freight rates per kg vary basis the total cargo weight booking as follows.

+100 kg
+300 kg
+500 kg
+1000 kg and beyond etc.
Other charges are X- RAY, FSC , MDC , AWB FEE etc.

Air freight rates can be split as above or they can be all inclusive per kg basis.

WHAT IS CIF

                                                    WHAT IS CIF CIF is short form of "Cost, Insurance and Freight". Like the CFR this incoterm is also exclusively used for shipping. Also like the CFR CIF is used for bulk goods and non containerised shipments. This indicates that the seller is responsible for the cost as well as the freight of the goods to the destination port which is decided by the buyer. In addition to all of this the seller must also provide insurance for the goods being transported. In CIF the risk transfer point is also different from other incoterms.
